"My goal is to foster relationships based on empathetic attunement and unconditional positive regard while remaining transparent and congruent. The process of influence can be generally obtained by providing purpose, direction and motivation. Additionally, my overall goal is to empower diverse individual and their families to accomplish the mental health and wellness goals of their choosing in order to live a more prosperous and productive lives. I believe that individuals have the ability to choose how to resolve their own problems and can make their own decisions with my assistance as a facilitator. As a counselor, I look to facilitate greater self-awareness through life experiences that lead to increased confidence, self-esteem, independence, mental health, and the capacity to effectively navigate the challenges of life. I believe this can be accomplished by realizing where one is, where they’ve been and where that would like to go!”

Licensed Professional Counselor
Approach to Therapy
Because I believe that a client’s self-awareness is key to developing self-direction and independence, my counseling practice is guided by a person-centered theoretical orientation. I also believe that the client’s needs are best met with a treatment plan tailored specifically to them. Therefore, I take an integrative, trauma-informed, approach to therapy and treatment planning using techniques that are evidenced-based and tailored to the client. I often incorporate techniques from solution focused brief therapy, cognitive processing therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). My approach will provide you with methods to solve problems utilizing your own strengths. Occasionally, and with your consent, I may use other approaches, such as narrative therapy to help facilitate your progress in counseling. Please be aware that I will only use techniques from therapies from which I am trained and with your consent.
“What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.” -Abraham Maslow
Credentials & Qualifications
After obtaining my bachelor's in psychology and a military career, I decided to pursue a master's in counseling from Sam Houston State University. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. As mentioned previously, I am a retired military veteran who served 24 years of active federal service with 3 combat deployments. It was my first career that inspired me to choose a profession and career that would benefit those who serve this nation or their communities as first responders. I completed my internship at the Refuge Trauma Center, Conroe, Texas and was able to obtain a wealth of experience and supervision under their expert leadership and staff. I am trained in EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy, and I have several certifications and experience in trauma specific therapies.
Passion & Values
I believe that clients have the ability to choose how to resolve their own problems and can make their decisions with my assistance as a facilitator. We are all responsible for our own behaviors, thoughts, and feelings and have a tremendous capacity to manage and regulate them in a manner that provides us with the greatest chance of living the life of their dreams. As a counselor, my goal is to facilitate greater self-awareness through life experiences that lead to increased confidence, self-esteem, independence, mental health, and the capacity to effectively navigate the challenges of life.
In my opinion, there is nothing greater than selfless service and those who serve their nation and their communities. Therefore, my passion lies within the population of veterans and their families, first responders, and others who have experienced trauma. My passion, knowledge, understanding, training, and first-hand experience allows me to identify as a trauma therapist. I have trained and earned certifications in the two extremely effective and evidence-based treatments for PTSD: Cognitive Processing Therapy and EMDR. Additionally, I have spent numerous hours working with clients who have experienced PTSD and complex trauma.
My role as a husband and a father informs my worldview. Being a father is the most important thing in my life, and I believe it was God ordained. Additionally, love and belonging has proven to be the essential ingredient for joy and happiness. The family is the smallest institution, though generations of destruction of the family has shifted our society to a place of imbalance. Being able to witness and conceptualize how trauma tremendously impacts families has instilled a passion inside of me to aid in restoring families. Families are the fabric of this nation, this world, and our overall being and existence.
Finally, I identify as a man of God who may not always get it right, but constantly strives to be better than yesterday. My belief is that I have a direct line to God through prayer, faith and obedience and that my convictions are my guidepost. I refrain from being judgmental and I believe that there is a difference between religion and spirituality. I open and welcome these conversations in the therapy space, while also recognizing that spirituality or religion may not be integral to every client and that is okay!
If I sound like I would be a good fit for you, let's talk! As Abraham Maslow said, “One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” Let me walk alongside you as we overcome fear, choose growth, and move toward greater self-awareness.
*Also, just because I believe in Jesus, doesn't mean you have to. Let's chat.
We have a team of clinicians waiting to unlock the power of vulnerability within you; let's see if we're a good fit!
